Welcome back!
I am excited to be back from my hiatus. I needed some anchor management–jk I just needed to take a breather from all of my responsibilities. I have the next three posts planned out (and almost completely finished). It was a really good idea for me to take a breather from the deadlines of this blog. I feel revitalized and ready to have some great content!
This week was one of my mom’s birthday presents. It turned out pretty adorable, and I liked how fun it was to make too!
Supplies Needed:
Wood Rectangle
Yarn
Nails
Hammer
Two Colors of Paint
Foam Paintbrush
Alphabet Stickers
Paper Towel
Paper
Pen
This is pretty straight forward! I actually found a similar project at Etsy for $30 and it is all over Pinterest too, but I added a little flare with the lettering.
First I painted the wooden rectangle (leftover from a previous project) the blue I have been painting all of my accents. I like the consistency of the same exact color throughout my entire apartment.
Then I got to work on the design of my anchor. I drew it a few times for size and shape before I decided on the design I chose. I also folded the design in half to make sure it was completely symmetrical.
Then I cut out the shape and nailed it down to the wood.
I then ripped off the colored paper which left just the outline of the anchor.
I tied the yarn around the nail and then proceeded to wrap the yarn around each nail to create the outline in the white yarn.
Now it was the fun part. I wrapped the yarn around randomly across to fill in the shape. I chose to do it at random, but the example I was going off of seemed to do more of a pattern. Totally up to the creator!
Then I took the stickers and firmly pressed them down onto the wood. I chose the saying “Family is the only anchor that will hold in a choppy sea”
I painted over the saying and then dabbed a dry paper towel over it to create a less “finished and clean” look. I also used the blue again to make the white edges less straight.
Once it was dry I peeled off the stickers. Now, I used cheap stickers from Walmart. I would recommend paying for better ones if you don’t want the paint to leak through. Unfortunately mine had some issues, but I think it actually goes with my design for it to not be perfect. Just a thought!
This is a picture of where my mom ended up placing it in her condo. Super adorable and super affordable! It only cost me $5 for all of the supplies because I already had most of it lying around my condo 🙂
I will see you all in two weeks! Upcoming projects: Closet Organization Tips, Small Laundry Room Hacks, and a Coffee Table turned into a TV stand post!! 🙂
